California Pizza Kitchen, known within the food industry as CPK, is a casual dining restaurant chain that specializes in California-style pizza. The restaurant was started in 1985 by attorneys Rick Rosenfield and Larry Flax in Beverly Hills, California. The chain is widely known for its innovative and non traditional pizzas, such as the "Original BBQ Chicken Pizza", BLT, Thai Chicken, and Jamaican Jerk Chicken pizzas. They also serve various kinds of pasta, salads, soups, sandwiches and desserts. They have an extensive children's menu for children ages 10 and under which includes a variety of different pizzas, pastas, salad, and chicken.

The chain has over 230 locations in 32 US states and eleven other countries, including 26 California Pizza Kitchen ASAP kiosks designed to serve passengers at airports and shopping malls. The company licensed its name to Kraft Foods to distribute a line of premium frozen pizzas, in 2000.; Nestlé purchased Kraft's pizza lines in 2010.



Grilled Sausage and Pepper Penne

California Pizza Kitchen Restaurant Recipe

1 recipe Marinara Sauce
8 spicy Italian sausage links
1 pound dry penne
1/4 cup olive oil
3/4 medium white onion, thinly sliced
3/4 medium yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
3/4 medium red bell pepper, thinly sliced
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese

Prepare the Marinara Sauce and set it aside.  Preheat a stovetop grill or broiler. Grill or broil the sausages until cooked through and nicely browned, about 12 minutes. Let them cool for a few minutes, then place in a covered container and refrigerate until chilled, at least 1 hour. With a sharp knife, cut each link at a 45 degree angle into 1/4 inch thick slices. Set aside in the refrigerator.

Bring a large pot of salted water to a rapid boil. Add the pasta and cook until al dente, 8 to 9 minutes.
While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and peppers and cook, stirring occasionally, just until the vegetables become limp, 3 to 4 minutes. Add the sausage slices and cook, stirring, about 1 minute more. Stir in the Marinara Sauce, salt, and pepper and bring the sauce to a simmer. When it begins to simmer, sprinkle and stir in the Parmesan cheese. Drain the pasta and toss it with the sauce in a large bowl.
